Optofluidics is a multidisciplinary research area combining photonics and fluidic matters. Optical fibers and fabrics have inextricably linked with fluidic materials from their birth to practical applications. This special topic session will explore the advantages of combining different materials and/or functions into optical fibers and fabrics, and the applications on optical fiber communication and sensor systems.

The topics of this session include but are not limited to

  • Advanced fabrication of new fibers and fabrics
  • Semiconductor fibers
  • Photonic crystal fibers
  • Microfibers and nanofibers
  • Smart fabrics and their applications
  • Softglass fibers
  • Tubular microfiber cavity
  • Nonlinear fiber optics with fluidic materials
  • Optical fibers for gas or liquid sensors
  • Hybrid fiber lasers
  • Lab-on-fibers
  • Optical fiber lasers
  • Optical fiber communication systems
  • Optical fiber sensor systems
